Hunting for Charming Nordic Gardens

spring

black petuniasI finally remembered that I told you I was going to do an entire post about the beautiful gardens that we saw on our trip to Norway and Iceland. I have to admit, I thought you might need a plan for getting through this election more. Looking at pictures of sweet Nordic gardens can't hurt either.

In all the places we visited both homes and businesses had cheery plants at the doorway. These black petunias in Norway were stunning.

And you know how I feel about post boxes...

...and bees.

When we got to Iceland I wasn't expecting the lush gardens we found there. Plants were thriving in the cool summer temps. I loved the charming little compost bin complete with the cutest little red shovel ever.

This pic of some cabbage is the only photo I didn't edit at all. It didn't get any more perfect no matter what I did.

The buildings in Isafjordur were sweetly stark. It showcased the beauty of even the simplest flowers to perfection.

It's traditional in the Faroe Islands to grow grass on your roof. Even on the garden shed. It's an indication of just how much rain they get.

In the city of Lerwick, Shetland Islands it was all about the fences and gates...

Do you look for gardens when you are traveling? I also love to garden hunt in my hometown. It's always fun and interesting to see what other gardeners are creating around them!

    Hi, Michelle!

I was delighted to discover your blog. I admire your less is more philosophy and your devotion to bees and have decided to follow you.

Mrs. Shady and I have been discussing a trip to Iceland, Norway or Finland for quite some time and this post encourages us even more. We are always on the lookout for gardens when we travel and your postcards show us what awaits in that part of the world. Those black petunias are stunning and the shed with a grass roof was a sight to see.

I also read your plan for getting through this election and will comment on it here. I don't care which side of the aisle you are on. I want you to know that I appreciate your post and the common sense advice imparted in it. Our country needs more people who think and behave as you do.

If you think you might enjoy hanging out with me, reminiscing and listening to great music spanning seven decades, then I cordially invite you to visit my blog Shady Dell Music & Memories. I look forward to growing a friendship with you.

    Thank you, Michelle!

    1. Thank you so much, Mr. Knight. (wink) I visited your cool blog and it reminded me so much of the stories my husband and his friends like to tell when they are together. They would have loved to have had someplace like the Shady Dell!

This being Memphis however, there was always a really hot music scene. One night they were in LaFayette's Music Room and they thought the piano player was really good. They asked who it was and the waitress said "Some guy named Billy Joel." He was still years away from any real success.

I highly recommend all the Scandinavian countries! They are beautiful, the people are friendly, and everyone speaks English.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!
