Why "Sustainable?"

If you have trouble viewing the video click on the bottom right where it says You Tube or view it on my Facebook page here.

So I've been all over my house and garden for these videos on a quest for good lighting and it's in the potting shed. Go figure. Hey, whatever it takes, right?

Why You: Sustainable and not You: Perfect, or Successful, or thin?

The name of this blog series is based on my belief that if our actions that we take toward change are not sustainable over the long term they are doomed to failure. You need to look no further than most of the drastic New Years Eve resolutions you have ever made to know I'm right.

Read about what happens to the Biggest Loser contestants after the show and why.

In this series we are going to take the idea of sustainable actions and put them to use in our favor because what we want to benefit from are the cumulative effects of the thousands of small things we do every day.

They are all going to be doable, but more importantly they are going to be things that you can continue to do over time.

A long time.

Like forever (or at least until you die).

They may also be different for every one of you and I'm going to be encouraging you to experiment with the things that work best for you. While there are strategic basic practices that work for everyone, the way in which you accomplish the practices can vary greatly.

Why do you think there are so many diet books, planners, and motivational speakers? Because on a macro level things are the same: we need to have healthy balanced meals, have a plan for our days and weeks, and be uplifted by others from time to time.

On the micro level however the Paleo diet that works wonders for many will not work for the vegetarian. Some people want planners laid out with hours to fill out and others do better with blocks of time. Your favorite motivational speaker, pastor, or teacher may just be irritating to me.

So while I'll go into some detail about a few things that are simple and proven, there is also some research to do on your part to find systems and practices that work best for you.

But I know you.

You like a challenge.

Meet me back here tomorrow and we'll discuss the reality and power of ordinary days.

XOXO

    1. Thanks, Kirstin! Me too, too many people beat themselves up for failing at someone else's bad plan.
