On many occasions when I was overwhelmed I was so tempted to do that when coping with the mass of belongings from elderly relatives but man, am I glad I took the time to sort through every single thing. At least having stuff organized for people to go through would be a massive help. I have many things I love and enjoy but just know already my kids will sell on Craigslist on the way home from my funeral. This is so true. My hubby works for a disaster restoration company and he is very much into "if you don't use it regularly or at least once a year...holiday stuff, it's time to get rid of it". Clutter and disaster restoration do not go hand in hand. lol. or if you buy something, get rid of something. Not always easy for me, but at least once a year I go through and try to clear things out.Kirstinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17792132554787453551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4567631071336565208.post-21688811185952397572014-10-07T08:07:05.114-05:002014-10-07T08:07:05.114-05:00Thanks for reading, Terri! Then they came home and the culture shifted to one revolving heavily around advertising and conspicuous consumption for the first time. That 40 X 40 challenge sounds killer! Good for you. Check out a blog called The Minimalists. You'll like them! Yes! Yes! Is this our age and stage of life...Yes! Yes! Yes! Is this our age and stage of life? I have a lot of stuff...still. Even though last Lent my spiritual discipline was 40 x 40---getting rid of 40 items a day for 40 days for a total of....drum roll...1600 items. It was tempting on some days to cheat a little and count, well, paper clips or something, but I resisted. My house was 1600 items lighter.

I spent a lot of time gathering during a hard time in my life. I would visit thrift stores and antique malls and buy pretty little things. It kept me happier for a time.

But now I don't need that anymore. And now...I am STILL this year getting rid of things...it feels great! It's a process and it's a good process, very cleansing. And thank you SO much for giving my blog a mention on yours! I was thinking that people were hoping I'd move on to projects but I may spend another day or two on this topic. It seems to be resonating with folks. Thanks for taking the time to comment! :)Michelle @Pen and Hivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01226767475370482122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4567631071336565208.post-29761636862313031212014-10-04T15:47:05.564-05:002014-10-04T15:47:05.564-05:00I think I need to take what you are saying to hear...I think I need to take what you are saying to heart. My biggest frustration for the past two years has been trying to figure out how to live in a smaller house with the same amount of stuff. I need to start letting go. Some of it was accumulated from a family friend who passed away, some of it is family items, but much of it is just junk that is in the way. Thanks for sharing - you are giving me lots to think about! #write31days :)
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4567631071336565208.post-76124502794809169602014-10-03T11:42:55.669-05:002014-10-03T11:42:55.669-05:00Sabrina, thanks so much for stopping by! They simply don't realize the back breaking work and crushing responsibility that will be left to you and your husband. My husband and I now regularly ask "Do we want to leave this for our kids?" We are empty nesters and becoming aware of how our stuff will effect them. They save everything and we try and tell them that clarity will have them more relaxed. Thank you :) Sabrina @Neverland Nookhttp://www.neverlandnook.comnoreply@blogger.com
