Do More Stuff You Like

I'm sharing stuff I like with you today. I made this video last month so the garden wouldn't look quite as sad as it does in October. Now I'm just in fall clean up mode.

What's this got to do with a sustainable you?

Because if the you that is sustainable is going to be happy and fulfilled then find some things you like to do and do them.

It doesn't have to be your life's passion. You don't have to create a business around it. You don't have to be an expert. Literally just do more stuff you like. Do the things that make you happy whether that is baking or bike riding, swimming or singing, reading or refinishing furniture.

For me, those things have changed over the years. I'll be writing more about that in a couple of days.

At this point in my life, I like gardening, and beekeeping, drawing, taking photographs, and upcycling junk into useful stuff. But I also like travel and sitting with a book and watching movies.

What are some things you like to do? Find some extra time in your day and do them even if it's for a few minutes.

  1. I enjoyed your garden tour. Thank-you. I have thought some about what pursuits would be sustainable into the next twenty years. I hope to keep playing piano and to be making art.

    1. I wish I had done a video garden tour in June when it was really lovely. I did have an open house and actual garden tour then. My husband's parents bought this house 50 years ago this year and we had a birthday party for the house and a naming contest.

Playing the piano and making art sound like very good ways to spend your time. And on an island! Only slightly jealous. ;)

  2. I am not always good at taking time to do things I like or love. I get caught up in everything else, or sometimes I don't like to do them by myself but don't have someone to "do them" with me. Or maybe my hubby or family don't like them so don't want to. I need to just do things I like, even if it means doing it myself.

    1. I think this is a problem lots of women share. We are so much about making sure everyone else is taken care of we forget ourselves. Sometimes it can take some rediscovery time to reminded what we used to want to do. Other times we are so exhausted mentally and physically, we just watch TV. I know TV is my default if I'm overwhelmed, tired, or undecided.

Could you find a class or a group to join to share your interests? Social media can be helpful in finding your tribe. And our families rarely appreciate our interests for some reason at least the kids are adults. Then all the stuff they thought was a waste of your time, they want you to help them with.

I have a friend whose husband always asks about her interests or hobbies "How are you going to make money at that?" Like how is that even a question?

Claim some time each week to do the things you want even if it's alone and no one else understands it. Let me know how it goes!

This is practically its own blog post.
